Monceau

Monceau
Paris 17e

A residential yet elegant district.

Architecture

The architecture here is clearly Haussmannian and the most elegant and spectacular expression of this style, punctuated by a few whimsical features like the pagoda of a major Chinese merchant (Maison Loo) on Rue de Courcelles, or the Hôtel Gaillard, inspired by the Château de Blois, on Place du Général Catroux.

The real estate portfolio here is majestic, with volumes that live up to their Haussmannian splendour, and most properties being kept in the family.

This area is very popular with families thanks to its proximity to Parc Monceau and its calm atmosphere.

Not to be missed

Lose your way in Parc Monceau before discovering the Musée Nissim de Camondo, a perfectly preserved private mansion. Here you can discover the 18th-century French furniture and objets d'art collected by Moïse de Camondo throughout his lifetime.

Or why not head to the Cathédrale Saint-Alexandre-Nevsky, an Orthodox church with stunning Byzantine architecture, domed roofs and a façade adorned with multicoloured mosaics that instantly transports you far from Paris. Then it's on to Sweden via the Église Suédoise and its connected school. The two red-brick buildings are reminiscent of a stroll through Gamlan Stan (a district in Stockholm). You can do your Scandinavian shopping at the Affaren grocery store, where you can also sit down for a Fika (Swedish for coffee break).

Finally, finish your stroll by heading to the Hôtel de Rothschild, a lesser known and more secret spot compared to Parc Monceau, but whose park offers a peaceful and green haven when the sun comes out.

Address Book

From decoration ideas and Varenne’s interiors, to an array of cultural and culinary discoveries, our homes have never been such a window onto the world!

Neighborhood Life

This area is very popular with families thanks to its proximity to Parc Monceau, its calm atmosphere, its excellent schools (Fénelon, Cours du Rocher, École Internationale Bilingue, etc.) and its pleasant neighbourhood life.
Rue de Lévis, with its village feel, shops and boutiques just a stone's throw away, offers a lively atmosphere without losing its residential charm.

It is also home to cultural gems like the Camondo and Henner museums, and the Cernuschi museum, which is less well known but just as remarkable as Guimet for its Asian art.
