Gros Caillou

Gros Caillou
Paris 7e

Some may wonder where the name comes from!

Haussmann architecture

The Haussmann architecture is truly majestic, intermingled with examples of Art Deco (the Lavirotte building on Avenue Rapp and Les Arums on Rue du Champ-de-Mars), while the wide, airy avenues converge at the Champ-de-Mars.

The district is elegant, peaceful, family friendly and affluent, home to excellent schools and instilled with a sleek and sophisticated atmosphere.

A calm disrupted, however, by the well-stocked boutiques on Rue Clerc and Rue de l’Université, in the best possible way! (Honey from the Mary family, cheese from Marie-Anne Cantin, ice cream by Martine Lambert, Pralus’ praline brioches and chocolates by Jacques Génin).

Facade immeuble haussmanien paris

Elegantly poised between the Hôtel des Invalides, the Champ-de-Mars and the Seine. This neighbourhood has been developed only recently on the scale of Paris as a whole.

Not to be missed

The musée du quai Branly, a majestic glass caravel moored on the banks of the river Seine and complete with a green wall and a programme of astounding variety as well as workshops to keep children entertained. A picture-perfect view of the Eiffel Tower, one of those rare spots where dream and reality become one.

Neighborhood Life

The neighbourhood has retained its pre-Haussmann feel of a large village at the far end of the Faubourg Saint-Germain district. Steeped in a convivial and laid-back atmosphere, the Champ-de-Mars provides an unlimited playground for children, who flock here as soon as school lets out.

Neo-traditional charm, discretion and nonchalance are the three words that aptly sum up the area and are reflected even in the local culinary establishments - the Auberge Bressane, the Fontaine de Mars, the Ptit Troquet, Les Cocottes and Firmin le Barbier. A typically French assortment of brasseries, firmly rooted here since the (not so long ago) 19th century.
