Chaillot

Chaillot
Paris 16e

It’s hard to imagine that the little rural village that once sat atop Chaillot hill has become one of Paris’ chicest districts.

Architecture

Haussmann reigns supreme here. The district is one of his finest accomplishments, designed under his vision of urban planning at its most elegant.

It is home to exquisite private mansions on Place des États-Unis with properties once inhabited by Russian and Polish aristocrats, their sumptuousness a stark contrast to their harsh exile, including the townhouse of the Countess Roza Branicka and Hôtel Ephrussi on the corner of Avenue d’Iéna, now the seat of one of the many foreign embassies in the district.

This architectural uniformity is punctuated by novelties such as the Palais Galliera in the “Beaux-Arts” style popular in the 19th century and the Palais de Tokyo with its classic and modern style, built for the 1937 Exposition Internationale.

The Jardins du Trocadéro, meanwhile, provide an island of greenery as well as a fabulous view of Paris’ Iron Lady.

Properties with generous volumes and square footage, a village feel against a picture-postcard Parisian backdrop, excellent schools (Lubeck, Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague, International School of Paris) and the many green spaces all make this district popular with Parisian families as well as expats moving to the capital.

Come evening, Café de l’Homme offers an ideal spot to enjoy a drink while taking in the view of Paris - weather permitting of course!

Not to be missed

The bookshop at the Palais de Toyko, one of Paris’ largest and most specialist, before a cup of coffee at Café de l’Homme to admire the view from the Trocadéro Esplanade.

A moment that never fails to capture the magic of Paris.
